Aguas Termales de Cuchumbaya

Aguas Termales de Cuchumbaya is a thermal spring site in the district of Carumas, Mariscal Nieto province in the Moquegua region of southern Peru, where geothermal waters emerge from the volcanic and tectonic terrain of the western Andean flank near the Pacific watershed, in a high-altitude landscape of cactus scrubland, quebradas, and terraced hillsides. Moquegua's thermal springs reflect the intense geothermal activity of the Central Andes volcanic zone, where the proximity of active volcanoes and deep fault systems creates abundant hydrothermal circulation. The springs at Cuchumbaya serve local communities in a remote Andean district that preserves traditional Moquegua agricultural and pastoral culture in landscapes little changed since pre-Inca times.
