Tucked away in Bad Staffelstein, in Bavaria's Upper Franconia region, the Obermain Therme draws on brine discovered in 1975 through a borehole reaching 1,600 metres deep, revealing Bavaria's hottest and most mineral-rich thermal water. Early visitors made do with a simple tub set up in a meadow, and it wasn't until 1986 that the permanent facility finally opened its doors.
Today, 3,000 square metres of water surface are spread across 25 indoor and outdoor pools, woven into a comfortable, contemporary architectural design. The site also houses one of Franconia's largest sauna landscapes, with eleven themed areas spanning 15,000 square metres, alongside a spa house offering classical treatments since 1989.
