Termas de Cuntis

In Cuntis, Galicia, Termas de Cuntis draws on springs known since Roman times: coins bearing the images of emperors Nero and Augustus were found in the bed of the fountains, while building work in 1835 uncovered an ancient square pool large enough for about a dozen people, built with special mortar and a fountain at each corner. The earliest written references to the "Caldas de Cuntis", however, date back to the 17th century. Commercial development only truly began in the late 19th century, with the construction of the first spa hotel, followed by the 1886 merger of the Baños del Castro and Baños de la Virgen establishments.

Since then, operating under the name Hotel Balneario La Virgen, the establishment has run continuously, including through the Spanish Civil War, and has remained in the hands of the same family for generations. Now considered the largest thermal complex in Galicia, it combines historical heritage with modern facilities, its sulphurous, sodium, fluoride and lithium-rich waters emerging at varying temperatures across the site's different springs.
