Hakuba Happo Onsen Happo no Yu is located in the village of Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, a well-known ski resort at the foot of the Japanese Alps. Its sodium-chloride thermal water is kept around 40°C (pH 7.3), with an indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo and a sauna.
Insider tip — Happo no Yu is the essential après-ski onsen of Hakuba Happo-one — the ski area that hosted the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics alpine events and today draws more international skiers than anywhere else in Japan. The Hakuba Three Peaks (Shirouma-dake, Karamatsu-dake, Goryu-dake) rise dramatically above the resort. After skiing world-class powder from 2,932 meters, sliding into the sodium-chloride onsen with steam rising against the snowy peaks and alpenglow fading overhead is the quintessential Hakuba experience that keeps skiers returning year after year.
