Shikinejima Onsen Ikoi no Ie, on Shikinejima Island in the Tokyo archipelago, features sulfurous, iron-rich water at 39°C (pH 6.5). An indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo and a sauna are available.
Insider tip — Shikinejima is one of the smaller Izu Islands (part of Tokyo), reachable by ferry from Shimoda or Ajiro. The island has several hot spring spots — Ikoi no Ie is the community rest-house bath. The volcanic geology produces iron-tinged sulfurous waters with a vivid amber hue. Combine with a cycle tour of this tiny, nearly car-free island.
