Bad Wilsnack, in Brandenburg, was already a recognised spa town in the early 20th century thanks to its peat deposits, used for mud baths. Access to a saltwater spring, however, only dates back to 1997, and it was not until 2003 that the town gained official recognition as a thermal saltwater and mud spa.
The brine feeding the Kristall Therme is drawn from an underground source 1,018 metres deep, with a salt content of around 16%. The site's standout feature is a unique salt lake reaching a 24% concentration, nearly matching the Dead Sea, partly covered by a dome housing a mini graduation tower where evaporating brine mimics the effects of sea air on the respiratory system.
