Anrakuhonke Shioyu Onsen is a hot spring in Kirishima, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Its name (shioyu, 'salt water') reflects its sodium-chloride thermal water, which reaches around 41°C. An indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo bath and a sauna are available.
Insider tip — 'Anrakuhonke Shioyu Onsen' (安楽本家塩湯 — peaceful-ease family salt spring) in the Makizono district of Kirishima city, at the foot of the volcanic range. 'Shioyu' (塩湯) explicitly names the sodium-chloride (salt) character of the water — warming, skin-nourishing, cardiovascular in its effects. The 'anraku' (peaceful ease) philosophy of this established family onsen reflects the Satsuma tradition of unhurried bathing as daily practice.
