The castle name hachiri (eight ri) recalls the complete defensive circumference of the Hojo castle complex walls — at their greatest extent enclosing the entire city within earthworks that represented the most ambitious fortification project of the Sengoku period, and the restored castle keep offers views over Sagami Bay and the Hakone volcanic peaks.
