Misakiya Onsen is located in Tottori Prefecture, on Japan's coast facing the Sea of Japan. Sodium-chloride thermal water flows at 40°C, with an indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo, and a sauna.

Insider tip — Tottori is Japan's least populated prefecture but home to one of its most surreal landscapes — the Tottori Sand Dunes (鳥取砂丘, up to 90m high, 16km long), Japan's only true desert dunes on the Sea of Japan coast. Kobo Abe set his masterpiece novel 'The Woman in the Dunes' in this landscape. Misakiya Onsen offers a restorative soak after exploring the dunes on sandboard, camel, or foot; Tottori also produces Japan's finest 20th Century pears (nijusseiki nashi).
