El Valle de Antón sits inside the crater of an extinct volcano, 600 metres above sea level — one of the few inhabited places in the world located within a caldera. This unique volcanic setting gives the region its distinctive microclimate and shapes the hot springs that rise naturally from the surrounding ground.

Opened to the public roughly two decades ago, these waters are noted for their mineral richness. Visitors can also apply volcanic clay gathered on site, a wellness ritual rooted in local tradition, set against the backdrop of the green mountains typical of central Panama.

Insider tip — El Valle de Anton occupies the crater of an ancient extinct volcano in central Panama, and its hot springs are fed by residual geothermal activity deep beneath the caldera floor. The water emerges at around 42°C with a sulfurous character and small pools are set within lush tropical garden surroundings. The crater valley's cool highland air — unusual for Panama at 600 meters elevation — makes the contrast with the hot spring water particularly refreshing. Weekends draw Panamanian day-trippers, so mid-week visits are far more peaceful.
