Pozos de Calobre

Pozos de Calobre is a natural geothermal spring site in the Coclé Province of Panama, where oligomineral thermal waters emerge in the rural landscape of the Coclé province interior, associated with the geothermal activity of the volcanic arc that runs through western Panama from the Colombian border to the Costa Rican frontier. The springs provide simple communal bathing facilities in a landscape of traditional Panamanian rural culture — cattle ranching, sugar production, and the indigenous communities of the Coclé interior who maintain Ngäbe cultural practices in the lowland savanna and foothill terrain. The Coclé province's archaeological heritage, including the extraordinary Pre-Columbian goldwork discovered at the Sitio Conte burial site — one of the most significant Pre-Columbian archaeological discoveries in the Americas — gives the province's thermal resources a depth of human historical association stretching back over a millennium.
