Aguas Termales de Chimur

Aguas Termales de Chimur is a natural thermal spring in the Paucartambo Valley of the Cusco Region, Peru, where bicarbonate-mineral waters emerge at approximately 3,000 metres altitude in a transitional ecological zone between the high Andean puna grasslands and the cloud forests descending toward the Amazon basin — one of the world's most biologically rich transition zones, protecting extraordinary concentrations of orchids, hummingbirds, and endemic cloud forest species. The springs are used by the Quechua communities of the Paucartambo area, whose cultural tradition is celebrated each year in the famous Virgen del Carmen festival at Paucartambo town — one of Peru's most extraordinary and visually spectacular indigenous festivals featuring elaborate costumed dances representing both Andean and colonial cultural syncretism. The combination of high-altitude thermal bathing with access to the Manu Road — one of the planet's most biodiverse highways, descending from the Andes to the Amazon — makes the Chimur springs a destination embedded within an extraordinary ecological and cultural landscape.
