Caldas da Felgueira

Caldas da Felgueira is a natural sulfurous mineral spring spa in the village of the same name in the Nelas municipality of the Viseu District, Beiras region of central Portugal, where sulfurous spring waters have supported a traditional Portuguese thermal establishment since the 19th century in a quiet agricultural landscape of vineyards and schist villages characteristic of the central Portuguese interior. The springs, known primarily for their hydrogen-sulfide content and appreciated within the Portuguese balneological tradition, represent one of many thermal spa centres that flourished in the centro region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The surrounding Nelas and Dão wine country, with its granite soil vineyards producing some of Portugal's finest red wines under the Dão DOC designation, enriches visits to Caldas da Felgueira with access to one of the Iberian Peninsula's most interesting and underappreciated wine landscapes.
