Băile Felix near Oradea in Bihor county, Transylvania, is Romania's largest and most visited thermal resort, drawing on warm bicarbonate springs that maintain the remarkable temperature of 48°C year-round and feed an extensive complex of indoor and outdoor bathing facilities. The springs are also home to Nymphaea lotus thermalis, the thermophilic water lily that blooms in Băile Felix's thermal lakes — the same species found in Egypt and Hévíz in Hungary, representing a botanical relic of ancient warmer climates surviving here because of the thermal water. The Felix and Venus thermal lakes, with their lotus flowers, are among Romania's most photographed natural attractions.
