Mu 4 is a sulfurous mineral spring located in the fourth administrative subdivision (mu) of a Thai rural district, identified by its official administrative designation as a mapped geothermal source serving the local community. The spring produces naturally heated sulfurous mineral water from geothermal activity underlying the surrounding landscape, and local residents access the spring for bathing and traditional therapeutic purposes in keeping with Thai rural hot spring traditions. Thailand's geothermally active regions contain numerous such community springs identified by their administrative subdivision number, representing the practical, community-scale hot spring heritage of Thai rural life outside the resort and tourist circuit.
Insider tip — Mu 4 is a village-level sulfurous spring near Ubon Ratchathani on the Mun River plain at the Thai-Lao border zone, where 38°C water rises through fault zones in the Jurassic-Cretaceous sedimentary sequence. The spring feeds a small community pool used by the Mu 4 hamlet for daily bathing and is almost unknown to outside visitors. The surrounding landscape of cassava fields and seasonal wetlands reflects the agricultural character of Ubon Province, Thailand's easternmost geothermal region. The low but consistent sulfur mineralization makes the water gentle on skin and appropriate for daily use.
