Yalova Termal is a celebrated resort town in Yalova province on the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara, just 12 kilometres from the provincial centre and easily accessible by ferry from Istanbul — making it the Turkish capital's most popular thermal day-trip destination since Ottoman times. The chloride thermal springs, which emerge at temperatures of 55–60°C, were developed as a resort by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who built a personal villa and government guesthouse here in the 1930s and regularly brought foreign dignitaries for rest and diplomatic entertainment. The historic Termal spa complex, set in a beautifully landscaped forest park of plane trees, pines and rhododendrons, preserves the atmosphere of the early Turkish Republic's modernising spa culture. The combination of Ottoman and early Republican history, thermal waters and Marmara Sea scenery makes Yalova Termal one of Turkey's most atmospheric thermal destinations.
