Bursa Kaplıcaları represents the full richness of Ottoman thermal heritage in Turkey's first imperial capital, where sulphate springs developed by Byzantine emperors and refined by Ottoman sultans into magnificent hammam complexes have created a thermal tradition of extraordinary historical depth. Bursa's thermal culture is inseparable from its identity as the city of Ottoman origins — the great hammams of Çekirge, some built by Sultan Murat I in the 14th century, embody the same civilisational impulse that produced the Topkapı Palace and the great mosques of Istanbul.
