Bursa Çekirge Thermal Hotels are a group of spa hotels in the Çekirge district of Bursa, northwestern Turkey, where naturally occurring sodium, sulfate, bicarbonate, and calcium-rich thermal mineral waters have been famous since Roman times and were developed into one of the most celebrated Ottoman imperial spa complexes during the fourteenth century, when Bursa served as the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman sultans established the Çekirge thermal baths as a model of imperial luxury, and the district's thermal heritage — including Eski Kaplıca (Old Bath) and Yeni Kaplıca (New Bath), the latter built by Grand Vizier Rüstem Pasha — represents some of the finest surviving examples of Ottoman balneological architecture in Turkey. Today the Çekirge thermal hotels continue this distinguished heritage, offering guests therapeutic immersion in the alkaline, sulfurous thermal mineral waters of Bursa in a setting shaped by twenty centuries of thermal bathing culture and some of Turkey's finest Ottoman architectural legacy.

Insider tip — The Cekirge district of Bursa is home to Turkey's most historically significant thermal hotels, fed by hot springs that emerge at up to 48°C from the slopes of Uludag mountain. Ottoman sultans built the original baths here in the 14th century, and the Byzantine emperor Justinian is said to have used these waters even earlier. The sodium-sulfate bicarbonate waters are particularly prized for rheumatic and skin conditions, and several grand hotel baths retain their original marble Ottoman architecture.
