A few kilometers from the famous white travertines of Pamukkale, the Karahayıt district (Denizli) is known for thermal waters tinted red, green and yellow by mineral oxides, chiefly iron, present in the springs. Considered sacred by the Romans some 1,200 years ago, these waters have shaped a landscape of colorful travertines that has become the village's visual signature.
Tourism here began modestly in the 1970s with family-run guesthouses, before larger hotels arrived from the 1990s onward. Today, Karahayıt offers a quieter alternative to Pamukkale for exploring these distinctive limestone formations, in a relaxed, wellness-oriented atmosphere by the water.
