The Karahayıt Roman Baths stand in the village of Karahayıt, a few kilometres from the white calcium terraces of Pamukkale in Denizli province — one of Turkey's most dramatic geothermal landscapes. While the famous Hierapolis baths draw international visitors, Karahayıt is distinguished by its own striking signature: iron-rich water that stains the rock and poolside surfaces with vivid reddish-orange tones, a visible indicator of the high mineral content below.
The water emerges at a notable 50 °C and is gently acidic at pH 6.3, reflecting the iron-rich and thermal character of the local geothermal field. Historically, the site has attracted bathers drawn to its visibly mineral waters and to the long regional tradition of immersion in Karahayıt's distinctive rust-coloured pools. The combination of elevated temperature, striking colour, and the ancient geological landscape of the Pamukkale plateau makes this an unusually evocative bathing destination in the Aegean interior.
