Guanziling Hot Spring is a hot spring in Baihe District, Tainan, Taiwan. The hot spring was discovered by the Japanese troops in the area and it was named Taiwan's No. 1 Hot Spring in 1920. The hot spring is located at an altitude of 270 meters above sea level. This rare spring releases methane, which has been burning constantly for around three centuries.
Insider tip — Guanziling is famous for its rare mud hot springs, one of only three muddy sulfurous spring areas in the world, where volcanic gases push mineral-rich clay up through the thermal water. The dark, silty water coats the skin with a natural mineral mask that devotees claim leaves a visible glow for days. The hill station setting in the foothills behind Tainan is dotted with Taoist temples and centuries-old camphor trees.
