Tainan Guanziling is one of Taiwan's four major hot spring destinations and the world's only known mud hot spring (nì tāng) resort, located in Baihe District of Tainan City at the foot of Ziyun Mountain in the central western foothills of Taiwan. The chloride mineral mud waters — unique in their combination of thermal water and volcanic grey mud — are celebrated throughout Taiwan for their exceptional skin-beautifying properties and have attracted bathers since the Japanese colonial period when the springs were first developed. The dramatic landscape of the Tainan foothills, the historic Biyun Temple complex carved into a hillside cave, and the unusual sensory experience of bathing in warm therapeutic mud make Guanziling one of Taiwan's most distinctive and memorable thermal destinations.

Insider tip — Guanziling is one of Taiwan's rarest thermal destinations, famous for its volcanic mud springs where sulfurous water and volcanic mud mix to create a distinctive dark soak. The springs rise from the slopes of the Central Mountain Range near Baihe. Arrive early to secure a private mud-bath room before the weekend crowds arrive. The surrounding hillside temples and camphor forests add a meditative atmosphere unlike any other Taiwanese resort.
