Taian Hot Spring Miaoli is a prized thermal spa nestled in the lush mountain gorge of Tai'an Township, Miaoli County, in northwestern Taiwan, accessible along the banks of a rushing mountain river in the foothills of the Shei-Pa National Park. Insider tip — Taian hot spring occupies a secluded river gorge in Miaoli's mountainous interior, traditionally used by the Atayal indigenous people long before Han Chinese settlers arrived. The waters emerge from faulted Miocene sedimentary rock and carry a mild sulfurous character with notable calcium content, producing a velvety bathing experience. The gorge setting is exceptionally scenic, with the Laolixi River rushing below and dense subtropical forest rising on both sides. The area is best visited midweek in spring or autumn to avoid weekend resort congestion.
