Kitagata Hot Springs Uganda

Kitagata Hot Springs is located in Kitagata in the Sheema District of the Western Region of Uganda, where calcic thermal waters emerge from geological formations associated with the Western Rift Valley—the western arm of the East African Rift System—and have been part of the bathing tradition of the local Ankole communities of southwestern Uganda since ancient times. The calcium-rich mineral composition of Kitagata's thermal waters is associated with well-being and the restful effects of warm calcic mineral immersion in the East African highland landscape, within a long thermal tradition. The Ankole region surrounding Kitagata—famed for its long-horned Ankole-Watusi cattle, traditional culture, and proximity to the spectacular Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Queen Elizabeth National Park—frames these thermal springs within one of East Africa's most culturally and ecologically significant highland landscapes.
