Franklin Hot Springs near Crown King in the Bradshaw Mountains of Arizona is a backcountry geothermal spring in the Prescott National Forest, where bicarbonate-rich waters emerge from the volcanic Bradshaw Mountains' intrusive granite basement at around 1,400 meters elevation in the Central Arizona Highlands. The springs feed natural pools in a creek canyon accessible via rough forest roads from the historic gold-mining camp of Crown King, a tiny community of about 100 residents perched at the end of a dramatic switchback road originally built for ore-wagon transport. The surrounding Bradshaw Mountains are rich with abandoned mining history — stamps mills, headframes, and prospect pits — and the Verde Valley's Montezuma Castle national monument cliff dwellings and tuzigoot pueblo ruins are accessible from the same highland base for a combined Arizona archaeological and geothermal experience.
