In Antelope Valley, deep in the Nevada high desert some 40 kilometers northwest of Eureka, Bartine Hot Springs rise atop a striking tufa mound known as "Hot Spring Hill," built up over time by minerals precipitating out of the thermal water. The site is ringed by the snow-capped Monitor, Simpson Park and Mountain Boy mountain ranges, a classic remote Great Basin backdrop.

The neighboring ranch takes its name from Fred Bartine, a Finnish immigrant who settled in Nevada in 1901, drilled three artesian wells on his 640-acre property, and served as a Eureka County Commissioner from 1924 to 1934. Today, several visitor-built soaking pools, including a concrete box and a heart-shaped stone pool, let travelers enjoy this remote high-desert spot.

Insider tip — Bartine Hot Springs sits in a remote basin of central Nevada's Basin and Range province near Eureka, where iron-bearing thermal water at 38°C surfaces in a remote meadow flanked by the Diamond Mountains. The springs are accessible via a rough dirt track that requires high clearance, ensuring a crowd-free soak under Nevada's vast sky. The orange and rust-colored mineral deposits around the source vent reflect the water's iron-rich chemistry. Winter visits offer the extraordinary combination of snow-dusted mountains and steaming warm pools.
