Penny Hot Springs is a small natural hot spring pool beside the Crystal River in Pitkin County, Colorado, where sulphurous water at around 38°C seeps from the riverbank into a rock-lined pool adjacent to the main road and the rushing mountain stream. Despite its modest size, Penny Hot Springs is one of Colorado's most visited roadside hot springs, beloved for its easily accessible location in the scenic Crystal River valley below Redstone and the spectacular Carbondale-to-Crested Butte mountain corridor. The surrounding Elk Mountains, the historic coal mining heritage of the Crystal valley, and the aspen forests that turn gold each autumn make this a classic Colorado mountain hot spring experience.
