Towadakohan onsen

Towadakohan Onsen is a hot spring resort on the shores of Lake Towada in Aomori Prefecture, at the heart of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, one of Japan's most beloved national parks where the deep crater lake of emerald-green water surrounded by ancient beech forests creates a landscape of exceptional beauty and tranquility. Lake Towada, formed in a caldera some 55,000 years ago, is the largest caldera lake in Honshu and one of Japan's finest swimming lakes, whose shores attracted the poet and sculptor Kotaro Takamura and his wife Chieko, immortalized in the famous Maidens of the Lake bronze sculpture that stands near the lakeside resort. The sulfurous thermal waters of Towadakohan Onsen provide a restorative bathing experience in perfect harmony with the serene and majestic lake environment, making this one of the most atmospherically complete hot spring destinations in the Tohoku region.
