Shiobara-Motoyu Onsen

Shiobara-Motoyu Onsen is one of the eleven spring areas of the Shiobara Onsenkyō resort cluster in Tochigi Prefecture, associated with the Yagan Railway station of Kamimiyori-Shiobara-Onsenguchi serving the Motoyu area, whose bicarbonate, silica-rich, and simple mineral waters provide a particularly versatile and skin-softening bathing experience within one of Japan's most historically significant hot spring resorts. Shiobara has been known as a therapeutic spring destination since the Heian period and was celebrated in the writings of the Meiji-era novelist Kodo Nomura, whose Shiobara Tajiro novel immortalized the village and its hot spring culture in Japanese literary memory.
