Ōami Onsen is the first and most downstream of the eleven springs that constitute the famous Shiobara Onsenkyō resort cluster in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture, accessible via National Route 400 along the Hokki River gorge, whose iodine and saline mineral waters combine two distinctive mineral characteristics to produce a warming, skin-nourishing bathing experience at the entry point of this celebrated resort valley. Shiobara Onsenkyō, one of Tochigi Prefecture's most historic and beloved hot spring districts, extends for several kilometers along the gorge of the Hokki River from this first spring at Oami upstream to the highest springs at Shionoyu and Arayu near the Takahara highland, with each of the eleven spring areas offering distinct mineral characters and atmospheric settings within the overall resort complex.
