Sendai Takajo Onsen

Sendai Takajo Onsen in Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture holds the distinction of being the oldest recorded hot spring in Kagoshima Prefecture, a claim rooted in a history of thermal use that predates modern nomenclature: the spring was known variously as Kawachi Onsen, Takagi Onsen, and Yugochi Onsen before its current unified name was officially adopted in 1967, reflecting the evolution of local identity around a single geothermal source used continuously for centuries.
