Çifte Baths (Sultandağı)

The Çifte Baths (Double Baths) of Sultandağı are a historic Ottoman double hammam in Sultandağı District of Afyonkarahisar Province in west-central Anatolia, a region crossed by the ancient trade route connecting the Aegean coast to the Anatolian plateau. As a çifte hamam, the complex featured symmetrically mirrored bathing sections serving men and women simultaneously in separate but architecturally equivalent halls, a design that maximised social utility while respecting Ottoman norms of gender separation. Sultandağı — whose name evokes the Sultan's Mountain — preserves several Ottoman-era monuments in a district that combined agricultural production with its role as a waypoint on Anatolia's commercial highway.
