The Sungurlu Hamam is a historic Ottoman bath in Sungurlu District of Çorum Province in north-central Anatolia, a region where the Hittite civilisation built its great capital at Hattusha — just 30 kilometres away — and where four thousand years of successive civilisations have left their marks in the landscape. Sungurlu serves today as the gateway town to the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Hattusha and Alacahöyük, and its Ottoman hammam represents the most recent major layer of a place whose history stretches from the Bronze Age to the present. The hammam served Sungurlu's residents as a weekly bathing and social gathering space in a modest Anatolian market town positioned at the crossroads of trade routes connecting the Black Sea coast to the central plateau.
