The Cinci Baths are a 17th-century Ottoman hammam in Safranbolu District of Karabük Province in north-central Anatolia, built as part of the celebrated Cinci Han complex — a monumental caravanserai and bath pairing in the UNESCO World Heritage historic town of Safranbolu, one of the most perfectly preserved examples of traditional Ottoman urban architecture anywhere in the world. The Cinci Baths formed the bathing half of a remarkable double complex that served merchants and travellers on the saffron trade route that gave Safranbolu its name, providing essential cleanliness after days of travel. Still operating today, the Cinci Baths are among the most evocative and historically authentic functioning hammams in Turkey, offering visitors the chance to experience the Ottoman bathing tradition in a setting whose surrounding streets of timber-frame mansions, stone hans, and winding lanes have barely changed in three centuries.

Insider tip — Safranbolu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the most perfectly preserved Ottoman town in Turkey, where hundreds of 18th- and 19th-century wooden mansions, mosques, and the Cinci Han caravanserai create a complete, living Ottoman cityscape. The Cinci Baths are part of this extraordinary ensemble, named for the same 17th-century figure as the famous han, in a town whose name comes from saffron cultivation and whose every street is a museum of Ottoman domestic architecture.
