The Daday Baths are a historic Ottoman hammam with naturally lithia (lithium-rich) mineral water in Daday District of Kastamonu Province in the forested mountains of north-central Anatolia. The presence of lithium in the mineral water gives these baths a distinctive therapeutic character — lithia waters were prized in the 19th and early 20th centuries for their purported calming and mood-stabilising effects on the nervous system, anticipating the eventual medical use of lithium compounds in psychiatric treatment by decades. Set in the green forested landscape of the Kastamonu highlands, the Daday Baths served the local community of a mountain district whose mineral spring heritage reflects the geologically active character of the Pontine mountain zone of north-central Anatolia.
