The Eski Hamam (Old Bath) of Küre is a historic Ottoman hammam with naturally sulphurous water in Küre District of Kastamonu Province, in the densely forested mountains of north-central Anatolia on the edge of the Küre Mountains National Park. Küre is primarily associated with its ancient copper mines, one of the oldest continuously worked metal extraction sites in Anatolia with production records stretching from at least the Bronze Age through the Ottoman period, and the hammam's sulphurous mineral water reflects the geothermal activity of a mining district where the earth's chemical richness surfaces in multiple forms. The sulphurous water was prized within the Ottoman and Islamic bathing tradition for its distinctive character, giving this historic mountain bath a dual identity as a place of both hygiene and well-being.
Insider tip — Küre in the Kastamonu mountains is an ancient copper-mining town — the Küre copper deposits have been worked since antiquity, and the surrounding Küre Mountains National Park protects one of Turkey's most pristine karst forest landscapes. The Eski Hamam (Old Bath) draws on sulfurous mineral springs in this remote Black Sea highland, where the mining heritage and the deep forests of the Pontic mountains create a landscape of exceptional natural and industrial-historical interest.
