The Bozdağ Baths are a historic hammam in Ödemiş District of İzmir Province, near the mountain of Bozdağ (ancient Mount Tmolus) in western Turkey, a forested range of oak and chestnut trees rising to over 2,000 metres above the fertile Küçük Menderes River valley. Bozdağ was celebrated in antiquity as the mythological site of the musical contest between Apollo and the satyr Marsyas, judged by Tmolus and contested by Midas — stories that embedded this mountain in the Greek mythological imagination as a place where divine music and mortal pride met their reckoning. The baths served the community of Ödemiş, a prosperous Aegean agricultural and market town at the foot of this mythologically charged mountain, with the essential weekly bathing ritual that formed the cornerstone of Ottoman communal life.
