The Arab Baths of Ronda are a well-preserved medieval hammam in the historic city of Ronda, Málaga Province in Andalusia, Spain, dating from the thirteenth century and considered among the best-preserved examples of Islamic bathing architecture on the Iberian Peninsula. Located below the old Arab quarter near the Guadalevín River, the baths feature a series of vaulted rooms with star-shaped skylights that filtered natural light into the warm, tepid, and cold chambers of the hammam, creating the luminous and atmospheric interior characteristic of Andalusian Islamic bath design. Ronda was an important city of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada until its conquest by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1485, and these baths represent the hygienic and social heritage of its long Islamic period.

Insider tip — Ronda is one of Spain's most dramatically sited cities — split by the El Tajo gorge, spanned by the breathtaking 18th-century Puente Nuevo, and birthplace of modern bullfighting. The Arab Baths of Ronda are among the best-preserved in the Iberian Peninsula — a complete 13th-century hammam with its star-shaped skylights and horseshoe arches intact, a masterpiece of Nasrid bathing architecture in a city whose spectacular setting inspired Hemingway, Rilke, and Orson Welles.
