Baños árabes (Cogollos de la Vega)

The Baños árabes of Cogollos de la Vega are thirteenth and fourteenth century Arab baths in the small village of Cogollos Vega in Granada Province, Andalusia, Spain, forming part of the alquería known as Qulqullus that was the Andalusian predecessor of the modern village. These baths are considered exceptional among the rural hammams of the Vega de Granada for their architectural quality and state of preservation, distinguishing themselves from the numerous other Arab bath remains found in the fertile agricultural plain surrounding Granada. They stand as evidence of the systematic provision of bathing infrastructure even in the rural communities of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada, demonstrating the social importance of the hammam at every level of Andalusian Islamic society.
