Nkhotakota Hot Springs in the Nkhotakota District of central Malawi are chloride-mineral thermal springs on the western shores of Lake Malawi, where the East African Rift Valley's geological activity brings warm mineral-bearing waters to the surface in the lakeside landscape. The springs are situated near the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, which has undergone one of Africa's largest wildlife translocation programmes, moving over 500 elephants and significant populations of lion, cheetah, and African wild dog from overcrowded reserves to restock the formerly depleted ecosystem. The combination of chloride spring bathing with proximity to a revitalised wildlife reserve and the historic lakeside town of Nkhotakota makes this a destination of layered natural, conservation, and historical interest on the shores of Africa's third-largest lake.
