Terme Ilidza is a historic thermal spa at Ilidza, the western suburb of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where sulfurous spring waters rise at 54 degrees Celsius and have been used therapeutically since the Roman period — the ancient settlement of Aquae Sulfurae was established here by legionnaires stationed in the province of Dalmatia. The spa complex, developed by the Austro-Hungarian administration after 1878 and expanded during the Yugoslav period, preserves an extraordinary mixture of Roman, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian thermal heritage in a setting that includes the famous Vrelo Bosne spring park — a landscape where dozens of crystal-clear springs burst from the ground in a water garden of lily ponds, swans, and century-old plane trees at the source of the Bosna river. The sulfurous thermal springs of Ilidza, the romantic Vrelo Bosne park, and the historic city of Sarajevo just 12 kilometres away create one of the most layered and culturally rich thermal experiences in the western Balkans.

Insider tip — Vrelo Bosne (the source of the Bosna) at Ilidža is one of Bosnia's most beautiful nature parks — crystalline springs burst forth in a romantic park with water lilies and swans. The Roman baths adjoin this aquatic paradise.
