Kharpani Hot Spring is a naturally warm geothermal spring in Nepal, situated in the rugged mountain landscape of the Himalayas where tectonic activity associated with the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates drives significant geothermal heat to the surface through the complex fault systems of the world's highest mountain range. Hot springs in Nepal's highland districts are both practical resources for local communities — providing warm water for washing and bathing in areas with extremely cold winters — and increasingly popular wellness destinations for trekkers following the great mountain routes of the Annapurna and Langtang regions. The spring offers warm, naturally mineralised water in an authentic high-altitude Himalayan setting.

Insider tip — Tatopani, whose name literally means 'hot water' in Nepali, is a legendary rest stop on the Annapurna Circuit where sulfurous thermal springs bubble up beside the Kali Gandaki river. The riverside pools are maintained by the village and offer an extraordinary setting with towering canyon walls rising over 5 000 m on either side. This is one of the lowest points on the circuit at around 1 200 m, making the warm temperatures especially welcome after descending from high passes. Apple brandy from nearby orchards is the traditional local accompaniment to an evening soak.
