Coconuco

Coconuco is a small mountain town in Cauca department, Colombia, known throughout the country for its exceptional natural hot springs where sulphurous geothermal water at very high temperatures emerges near the foot of the Puracé volcano — one of Colombia's most active — in the extraordinary volcanic landscape of the Colombian Massif. The springs, including the famous Aguatibia and Agua Hirviendo sites where water boils directly from the earth, attract Colombian thermal tourists as a complement to the spectacular scenery and indigenous Misak culture of the Silvia and Puracé highlands. The nearby Puracé National Natural Park, with its páramo ecosystems, condor populations, and active volcanic crater, makes Coconuco part of one of Colombia's most geologically and ecologically dramatic regional landscapes.
