Bad Schlema has been, since 1 January 2019, one of the four districts of the merged town of Aue-Bad Schlema. It lies in the Erzgebirgskreis district in Saxony and is part of the Silberberg town association. Until the end of 2018, Bad Schlema was an autonomous municipality. The Silberstraße runs through the district. Tourism is particularly important to the locality in the fields of leisure and well-being. Bad Schlema has been a "recognised state spa" since 2021.
