Gilleleje Havbad is a sea bathing and spa facility on the northern tip of Zealand in the Capital Region of Denmark, perched at the narrowest point of the Oresund strait where the iodine-rich waters of the Kattegat and the Baltic Sea intermingle in the historically significant shipping channel between Denmark and Sweden. The thermal sea bathing uses the naturally iodine-enriched brackish waters of the Oresund, a geographically and historically pivotal stretch of sea that was once the most important toll-collecting strait in Northern Europe, through which every ship trading between the Baltic and the Atlantic was compelled to pass from the 15th to the 19th centuries. The cold-water thalasso tradition of the Danish havbad — alternating between heated seawater pools and cold sea plunges in the Nordic manner — combined with the historic fishing harbour of Gilleleje and the view across to the Swedish coast creates an authentic and bracing Nordic coastal wellness experience.
