Balneario de Bellús

The Balneario de Bellus is a historic thermal spa in the province of Valencia in the Valencian Community, occupying an 18th-century neoclassical building of exceptional architectural quality, with its original marble pools, arcaded galleries, and stone treatment rooms preserved virtually intact — one of the best-preserved examples of Bourbon-era Spanish balneotherapy architecture. Its bicarbonate and magnesium-rich spring waters have been used therapeutically since the Roman period, when the site was known as Aquae Bellonenses, and were extensively documented by Valencian physicians in the 17th and 18th centuries for their effectiveness in digestive and hepatic treatments. The thermal complex, embedded in the fertile Valencian agricultural landscape of orange groves and rice fields between the coast and the inland sierras, represents a direct and uninterrupted connection to 2,000 years of Spanish thermal medicine.
