Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste in the Haut Vallespir district of the Pyrénées-Orientales is a fortified Catalan mountain town designed by Vauban in 1690, whose thermal springs emerge at the hamlet of La Preste four kilometres above the medieval town at 1130 metres elevation in the Technical Reserve of Prats-de-Mollo, where the extraordinary concentration of rare plant species in this Pyrenean botanical sanctuary includes the endemic Pyrenean violet and numerous other species found nowhere else in France.
