The oldest thermal establishment in Dax, Bains Saint-Pierre carries a history tracing back to the mid-16th century, when the Saint-Pierre spring was already frequented by visitors. What began as a simple wooden hut run by the Mont-de-Marsan almshouses became, in November 1854, the property of Pierre Lauquet, a farmer working the site, who gave the place its official name. The establishment has remained in the same family ever since, generation after generation, a rare continuity for a thermal site.

Around 1967, a swimming pool was built alongside it by private physiotherapists, modernizing the cures and adapting to changes in French health insurance. Today, Bains Saint-Pierre draws on Dax's hyperthermal water and péloïde, the local mud blending Adour river silt with thermal bacteria, for cures focused on rheumatology and phlebology, in a family setting that has stayed true to its roots.

Insider tip — Thermes Bains Saint-Pierre is one of the historic cure centers clustered in Dax, the ancient Gallo-Roman Aquae Tarbellicae in the Landes pine forest region. The bicarbonate-rich thermal water at 38°C is delivered in a traditional cure format complemented by Landes thermal mud therapy. Dax's bull-running festivals in summer add a distinctly local Gascon flavor to any thermal stay.
