Parco Termale di Montecatini Terme — known locally as La Pineta — is the celebrated thermal park at the center of Montecatini Terme in the Pistoia province of Tuscany, Italy, one of Europe's most historic spa towns where the mineral springs were first systematically developed in the eighteenth century under the patronage of the Grand Duke of Tuscany and where nine thermal establishments draw on mineral waters of exceptional variety and international therapeutic renown. The park encompasses the grand colonnaded halls of the Tettuccio, Leopoldine, and Excelsior establishments, surrounded by manicured gardens, promenades, and belle époque architecture that UNESCO inscribed as part of 'The Great Spas of Europe' in 2021. Montecatini's saline, sulfurous, and bicarbonated mineral waters have been drunk and bathed in by European royalty, artists including Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, and millions of thermal cure visitors since the eighteenth century.

Insider tip — This thermal park on the volcanic island of Ischia taps the same hydrothermal system that has made the island famous since antiquity, with sulfurous waters heated by the Epomeo volcanic complex. Ischia has the densest concentration of thermal parks of any island in the Mediterranean. The garden pools are set against bougainvillea terraces with views over the Bay of Naples toward Vesuvius and the Sorrentine Peninsula.
