Terme di Cavascura occupies a natural ravine on Ischia's southern coast that is widely considered the oldest spa in the Western world, with evidence of thermal bathing use stretching back to at least the 5th century BC when Greek colonists carved bathing chambers directly into the tuff gorge walls — chambers that remain in use today in their original form.
